DIY Festival Hood How To

This festival season we’re spending the bulk of our time at festivals in places that get super chilly at night. The squad wants to look great, but also not die of hypothermia under a disco ball in Dufur, Oregon. Reversible festival hoods with a longer cowl neckline seem like the solution to the our problems.

 SUPPLIES:

1/2 yard of cozy fabric (faux fur etc.)

1/2 yard of amazing fabric (cosplay lycra, silk, tie dye, black light reactive etc.)

template (we used our favorite hoodie to trace out the template – the depth and length of the hood – then added 5 inches to both to make it more cozy)

sewing machine & thread

  1. Trace template using a hoodie you love. You can see where our hoodie neckline ended. I extended it to create a cowl.

2. Cut two mirror images of the amazing fabric and the cozy fabric.

3. Turn the amazing fabric inside out, sew the two pieces together right up the back – right side on the inside. Do the same with the cozy fabric.

4. Attach the front of the hood pieces together. The easiest way to do this is to turn the two pieces inside out so that the right side (the side of the fabric you want on the outside and inside of the hood) are touching. In the picture above the butterfly fabric would be touching the furry fabric. Sew the front of the hoods together. Then sew the neckline together leaving a gap so that you can pull the right side fabric back out. Sew the gap closed.

We bought our fabrics at Joann’s, using ALL the coupons, so these hoods cost about $10 each to make. They took about 30 mins to make.
